Richard Migliore Biography

Richard Migliore is one of the most popular and richest Jockey who was born on March 14, 1964 in Babylon, New York, United States. He won the 2005 Aqueduct Racetrack spring meeting. On February 4, 2005, he won his 4,000th career victory. He won two races that day: one on Hurricane Erica, the other on Benjamin Baby. Migliore was the 18th jockey to achieve this milestone, and the 43rd American jockey to win so many races. After a long career on the East Coast, Migliore made the announcement in October 2006 that he was moving to California. He rode his first mount at Hollywood Park Racetrack on November 15. Migliore was awarded the George Woolf Memorial Jockey Award on February 23, 2008. Migliore made it clear that he was returning to Saratoga in the summer 2008. Migliore moved to New York after the Saratoga meet.

In late 2010, shortly after retiring from the saddle, Migliore joined HRTV as an analyst where he appears on number of shows, including “Pursuit of the Cup” and “Pursuit of the Crown”. He contributed reports from the Breeders’ Cup, and the Triple Crown races. In 2014, Migliore joined Fox Sports 1 The Jockey Club Tour on FOX racing series as the racing analyst before moving on to the New York Racing Association, serving as broadcast analyst and racing office associate.

On May 4, 2010, he underwent an operation in which two plates and 8 screws were inserted into his neck due to a fall from his mount, Honest Wildcat, at Aqueduct on January 23, 2010. During a press conference held at Belmont Racetrack before the draw for the Belmont Stakes in June, Migliore announced his retirement. He won 4,450 races, including 362 stakes and 25 Grade 1 events.

Migliore sustained a neck injury that was almost fatal when he was thrown at Belmont Park by Madam Alydar on May 30, 1988. Rescue 911 aired the story in 1992. He suffered a serious fracture to his right arm from another fall at Belmont in July 1999 and was out of competition for six months.

Migliore received the Eddie Arcaro award from the New York Turf Writers Association for being an outstanding jockey in 1981-85. The 2003 Mike Venezia Memorial Award was presented to Migliore by the New York Racing Association. It recognizes his “extraordinary sportsmanship, citizenship” and is a tribute to the New York Racing Association. Migliore was also honored that year at the 2003 Thurman Munson Awards Dinner of the Association for the Help of Retarded Children. He won the New York Thoroughbred Association Jockey of the year title in 2005. He rode the New York-bred winners of the 58 races and won $2,246,398.

On October 25, 2008, at Santa Anita Park, Migliore won his first Breeders’ Cup race, the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint on Desert Code.
